Product Talks is Now Part of Leading the Product

We Are Excited to Announce that Product Talks is Now Part of Leading the Product.

Effective October 2021, the Product Talks meetup group (and the amazing community that you helped to build!) is now part of the Leading the Product brand.

This is more than just a re-positioning, it is going to kick off an entirely new and exciting journey for the Product Talks communities. Keep reading to find out all the new exciting opportunities this will bring for the members of Product Talks.

Yes, it also means a new look! More on that in a moment.

Why the Change?

Product Talks was started in Sydney, Australia by Nick Coster, Co-Founder of Brainmates in 2007.

Nick and Adrienne Tan founded Brainmates in 2004 with a mission of championing the importance of effective product management to organisations.

In 2004, there were no meetups, conferences, camps or Associations of any sort for product people to belong to and this was why Nick started Product Talks. Product Talks was to be a place for like-minded product people to gather, to share ideas, to support each other, to connect to one another and make friends.

Since then, Product Talks has grown from a tiny circle of people in an office to a network of over 8,000 worldwide community members in 13 cities around the globe: Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Canberra, Perth, Wellington, Auckland, Singapore, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Ho Chi Minh City, Johannesburg, and New York!

As this wonderful community continued to grow and thrive, there became a need to connect those local communities on a National Scale and in 2015, the annual Leading the Product conference was born. That conference grew out of the Product Talks community and became a flagship event on its own.

12 months ago, Brainmates repositioned as a B2B company that provides Product Management services to SMEs and enterprise clients, with a primary focus on delivering product lead transformation programs.

At the same time, Leading the Product was repositioned as its own separate brand focused on creating a global community where product people can belong, be inspired, and connect.

It is time to move full circle and bring Leading the Product and Product Talks back together again. This time with Product Talks positioned under the Leading the Product brand.

The amazing Product Talks community will no longer be associated with the Brainmates B2B brand but instead associated with Leading the Product.

Community is where Product Talks (and everything else we have planned in the future to build a global community with local roots) will sit.


Is our annual Flagship Leading the Product Conference that you know and love!! The first event was held in 2015 in Sydney, Australia and has grown to become the largest product conference in the Southern Hemisphere.


Is our digital community of members who continues the learning from the annual conference with the Video Replays and the additional Episodes we produce and deliver on a year-round basis.

With these 3 product lines working together harmoniously, the value we can now deliver to the Product Talks community is also far greater.

We have an exciting vision for what Leading the Product (LTP) will become and we are excited to give you a sneak peek of the vision now.

Leading the Product will run a Season that will last the Calendar Year (January through December).

Each Season will have a theme that connects it together and will be developed into an original framework with new research, new learning, new writing, new talks, new templates and tools….all coming out of that Season’s efforts.

We will spend a year deep-diving into that theme with the Annual LTP Conference using that theme as the backbone for the speakers and talks.

The annual LTP conference will run multiple times per year in regional locations around the world.

In 2022, the LTP Conference is in APAC (as always) and in the USA. We plan to expand again in 2023.

The theme will be the same at each location’s conference but the speakers will change so there is a mix of local speakers in each regional area.

There will be an amazing mix of thinking and work done across the globe that will be combined into the Season Pass where members can watch and read the thinking and perspectives from each region around the world on their own time.

The Future of Product Talks

LTP Community, which means Product Talks, will also play a big role in that Season.

Product Talks meetups will benefit from the national and global network of Leading the Product. Exciting activities, speakers, and support will be provided to local meetups.

There will always be a local community, but, there will also be a chance to be a part of something bigger.

We will share more news on the 2022 Season and how each local Product Talks community will benefit in the near future.

You will see some changes on the Meetup platform right away: a new logo, some new fresh new colours. You will some other changes coming to the community events soon.

What This Means for You

It has been an Interesting past 18 months. COVID-19 certainly changed so much around the world and Meetups, like Product Talks, have gone through that change like everyone else.

As we move into 2022, we are really looking forward to seeing how we, Leading the Product, can bring together a tight-knit network of awesome product people into one place, where all belong, no matter where they are located in the world.

Our vision for the future is to develop Product Talks into a global community of connected product people that is safe, inspiring, welcoming and inclusive.
